Last month, Unicef said Lebanon’s many crises are having a “devastating” impact on children and their education.
Unicef said that more than a quarter of households surveyed in November reported children not attending school.
Since the Israel-Gaza war began on October 7, the border between Lebanon and Israel has seen violence, raising fears of a bigger conflict and sending thousands fleeing border areas. Unicef warned that “the deprivations and uncertainty are leaving children hungry, anxious or depressed”. Some 46 per cent of households near the cross-border hostilities said their children were anxious.
For the past four years, Lebanon has been experiencing a harsh economic crisis that has pushed many people into poverty. “Desperate parents ... are forced into a heart-wrenching struggle to keep their families afloat,” Unicef said.
