Hong Kong bus passengers have been told not to cut their nails on the bus after a viral video of a commuter upset many online.

A recent social media post showed a man on a bus getting angry after someone asked him to stop clipping his nails.

A woman in a separate photo, believed to be the man’s partner, said the passenger filming could share the footage online because she wanted to “go viral”.

Lai Siu-chung, director of the KMB branch of the Motor Transport Workers General Union, said there is a list of 28 rules for passengers posted inside every KMB or Long Win bus. The union representative said commuters should also avoid doing their make-up and similar activities.

Citybus, another bus company, doesn’t mention nail clipping in its passenger guide. Similarly, the MTR Corporation’s rules don’t address it either, but they do have rules against causing disturbances, dressing inappropriately and using offensive language.

Bus drivers and station staff can handle behaviour not specified in the guidelines on their own. If a passenger is difficult, they may be asked to leave the bus, or staff might call the police if needed.
