A rare wild owl that was bred in Hong Kong has attracted lots of photography fans and bird watchers to the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden. To protect the owl and prevent visitors from getting too near, the park has decided to temporarily close a section of the site.
Images on social media showed many excited people pushing each other on a path in the farm’s nature area. They were pointing their camera lenses at the trees where the rare brown wood owl was nesting with its parents.
With its unique deep and dark brown eyes, the species is native to Hong Kong, according to the farm’s website.
They are believed to have arrived in the city in the past two decades. They can also be found in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
The farm’s spokesman added that the owl parents now needed some peace and quiet to raise their youngster.
The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society also asked photographers to behave themselves when taking pictures of birds. It said that information about bird sightings and their locations should only be shared “with discretion” and not be revealed “casually in public”.
