Our world has many different religions, including Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, and more.

Christianity is the most followed religion in the world. More than 2.5 billion people call themselves Christian.

Easter is a Christian holiday coming up this month. It features the Easter bunny and eggs with colourful designs.

The next biggest religion is Islam. Its holy month, Ramadan, happened in March. Islam has about 1.9 billion followers around the world, including Hong Kong.

The third biggest religion is Hinduism, with more than one billion followers. It is also one of the world’s oldest beliefs.

Last month, Hindus celebrated Holi, the festival of colours.

Materials

  • a few potatoes

  • toothpick, skewer, spoon or fork

  • paint

  • paintbrush

  • a white piece of paper

Instructions

1. Cut the potatoes in half lengthwise. Their shape should look like an oval or egg.

2. Carve designs into the potato using the toothpick, skewer, spoon, or fork.

3. Use the paintbrush to quickly paint the potato. Don’t add paint to the parts where you have carved the designs. Then, stamp it on a piece of paper. If your designs don’t show up on the paper, carve them to be wider and deeper.
