Kris Kwong, aged 10, Renaissance College

Climate change is the greatest threat to humans. It is occurring because of pollution, industrialisation, and deforestation.

The temperature is rising, and typhoons and other extreme weather occur more often. Super Typhoon Saola led Hong Kong to raise its highest tropical storm signal. The next week, our city saw heavy flooding.

The increasing intensity of typhoons is another signal of accelerating climate change. Addressing this issue should be one of the world’s most urgent matters.

Daisy So Ka-wai, aged 17, Fung Kai No 1 Secondary School

This summer, I went to Shek O Beach with my family. We went in the afternoon so that the weather wouldn’t be too hot.

My sisters rushed to the sea and swam for the first time. I saw some small fish that were swimming near the beach, so I tried to catch them with a bucket. I was able to catch two, but freedom belonged to them, so I released them.

When the sun set, we left. That was the best day for me during the summer holidays.

Allie Ng Cheuk-yan, aged 11, St Stephen’s Girls’ Primary School

When I was in Primary One, I won my first speech festival championship. I can still remember how nervous I was.

When I recited my poem, I saw many people staring at me. But I kept my feelings to myself and recited my poem calmly.

I didn’t think I would win because I didn’t have any experience. But then, the adjudicator announced: “The championship goes to Allie Ng!”

I was shocked. It was the best day of my life.
