Our school celebrated Digital Citizenship Week in October. It taught students how to be good digital citizens.
During morning homeroom, teachers carried out special digital citizenship reading activities during our DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time. Grades 1 to 4 listened to books read out loud by their teachers, while Grades 5 to 6 read on their iPads.
Students learned why it is so important to keep their personal information private and discovered which online gaming tools are the most helpful for learning. During lunch and recess, they played a fun Kahoot! game that asked questions such as:
-
What should you do if a stranger texts you?
-
Who should you share your private information with?
-
Why is it important to learn the basics of digital citizenship?
Students were reminded to carefully guard their personal and private information, not use inappropriate language, and that safety comes first.
They also designed special bookmarks with their unique digital citizenship superheroes to protect them from online danger. They also created their own digital citizenship pledges.
While doing these activities, students got to listen to good music and enjoy the positive vibes of the day with their friends. Everyone had a fun time creating exciting and eye-catching illustrations.
Our pupils have learned how to protect themselves online, keep their information private, and be great digital citizenship superheroes!
