Our next question: What are your hopes for the Year of the Horse? To take part, drop us a line via this form by 12pm on Wednesday, February 4.
Ying Lai-yan, 17, PLK Mrs Ma Kam Ming Cheung Fook Sien College: It has to be Coco. The first time I watched this film with my grandfather, it was incredibly moving. I cried buckets. Grandpa said he would always be with me. But he broke his promise. I want to cry with him again, to remind myself that “death is not the end; forgetting is”. Maybe he never truly left me.
Chan Ka, 16, Madam Lau Kam Lung Secondary School of MFBM: Zootopia is a fun animal detective story with a big, smart heart. It teaches us the importance of not judging others without feeling like a lesson. Finding out that “anyone can be anything” again would be wonderful.
Tommy Fu Tsz-tsun, 15, GCC & ITKD Lau Pak Lok Secondary School: I would pick Internal Affairs. The smart, exciting story is like a tense game of hide-and-seek. The acting is so amazing that it makes you question who is truly “good” or “bad”. Watching it again for the first time would let me experience the gripping tension and moral dilemmas all over again.
Chow Ching-lim, 16, Fung Kai No 1 Secondary School: My pick is Demon Slayer. It’s an amazing Japanese anime. I want to feel the surprise of Tanjiro’s adventures all over again, not knowing the cool fights or warm moments before they happen. It was so fun to watch his brave journey the first time, and that joy is the best!
Tsang Mei-lam, 17, HHCKLA Buddhist Ma Kam Chan Memorial English Secondary School: I would choose Turning Red. It shows us how the challenges we face in our youth come from all directions, from family and peers to ourselves. Many of us assume that we must meet others’ expectations and follow our parents’ guidance. But as this film shows, even if we do this, we can still find ourselves confused or caught in dilemmas.
Chloe Mok Yu-kiu, 16, Christian Alliance SC Chan Memorial College: It would be Time Still Turns the Pages, a famous Hong Kong film released a few years ago. I spent almost the entire film crying in my seat because I experienced an emotional roller coaster, from hurt to grief, sympathy, anger and hope. I wish I could relive the experience.
Li Tsz-ching, 14, Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School: If I could watch a film for the first time again, I would choose Enola Holmes. It tells the story of Sherlock Holmes’ teenage sister, who is just as smart and observant as the famous detective. It showed me the power of women and that girls can be different from what society expects of them.
Diana Yim Tsoi-yi, 17, Leung Shek Chee College: I’d like to re-experience the Hong Kong film Another World for the first time. Its stunning fantasy visuals, touching story of sibling bonding and profound reflections on letting go make the first watch an unforgettable, soul-stirring joy I long to relive.
Zoe Hung Tsz-ching, 16, Po Leung Kuk Tang Yuk Tien College: I would definitely watch The Last Dance again if I had the chance. Not only does it include unique elements of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage, but it also contains several heartwarming scenes that have stirred my mind.
Roselyn Batra, 13, St Paul’s Convent School: I would see the Japanese animated film Your Name again, because it is a really touching story, with a plot that both frustrates and moves its audience. It was so emotional at the end when they finally met each other again, after all the hurdles they’d been through. I’d love to watch it again.
