Cheung Chau’s Bun Festival has a rich history and fabled origin. According to one legend, the outlying island was once devastated by a plague in the 18th century – which brought pirates to its shore. Troubled, local fisherman brought an image of their deity, Pak Tai, to the island, parading it through the village lanes and driving away evil spirits. Today, three giant 60-feet bamboo towers stand at Pak Tai Temple in tribute every year. Let’s learn more about what the celebration looks like now:
