Creativity and compassion shone at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong as pupils took part in initiatives to raise funds for charity.
From selling plush toys of the school mascot to designing festive Christmas cards, students at the Tseung Kwan O school spent two months developing the fundraising projects, which were held last December.
The proceeds went to Operation Santa Claus (OSC) for the OSC School Fun4Funds Challenge, part of the annual fundraising campaign run by the South China Morning Post and public broadcaster RTHK.
Leading the efforts were Year Six students Cadence and Kaelan, who both asked to share only their given names. They helped design the initiatives and encouraged their peers to get involved.
“I really enjoyed the Christmas card decoration because lots of students could show their creativity by designing their own cards,” Cadence said. “Through projects like OSC, we were stronger together in taking action and making a difference.
It is important to learn this now, as we will be able to make an even bigger impact in the future.”

Kaelan said the projects allowed him to contribute to the community.
“As a committed global citizen, I am part of the solution, and I feel a deep sense of responsibility to empower others to feel the same. I look forward to carrying this value of active contribution with me into secondary school and beyond,” he said.
It was the first time the school had worked with OSC. Shrewsbury’s principal, Priya Kanthan, believed the partnership would have a powerful impact on students.
“This collaboration perfectly reflects our core values of care and compassion and encourages our community to act as global citizens,” she said.
“They aren’t just learning about charity. They’re living it by creating, selling and advocating for a cause.”
OSC, a flagship charity campaign in Hong Kong, officially launched in 1988 as a joint initiative between RTHK and SCMP.
Since then, OSC has raised over HK$396 million and supported more than 365 charitable projects across Hong Kong. It has benefited more than 100,000 people and grown into one of Hong Kong’s most recognised and trusted charity campaigns.
