The film One More Show was shown at the Cairo International Film Festival last month. It followed the lives of performers at the Free Gaza Circus.
The movie was filmed during the summer of 2024, when the war in Gaza was already happening. It was co-directed by Egyptian Mai Saad and Palestinian Ahmed el-Danaf.
Danaf, 26, recorded footage of the clowns, jugglers and stilt walkers. He sent the footage to Saad in Cairo, who took one year to put the film together. It mixes humour, exhaustion and childhood innocence.
Youssef Khedr founded the circus. He said the goal was for children to see something other than war and destruction.
Since the war began, two of the troupe’s performers have been killed and three injured in strikes.
