Palm trees in Mexico City are in danger because of a disease spread by bugs.

The disease is called lethal yellowing. It is caused by a type of beetle called the red palm weevil. It is from Asia but has spread all over the world.

Experts say that climate change is making it easier for these bugs to hurt the trees. That is because climate change is making the weather warmer. When it is hot, the trees attract more bugs.

Mexico City’s government removed 155 palm trees.

People are sad because the city has cut down the dying palm trees. In the Narvarte neighbourhood, palm trees are part of its history.

“As long as I have been here, the palm trees have been there,” a 68-year-old resident said.
