Last month, the town of Buñol in Spain held the annual Tomatina festival. About 15,000 local people and tourists joined the event. It is a fun “fight” where people throw overripe tomatoes at each other.
The festival first started in 1945 after a playful food fight among children. Since the 1980s, it has become a well-known event and attracts visitors from around the world.
Participants wear T-shirts and shorts and protect their eyes with swimming goggles.
The tomato fight is one hour long. Afterwards, people use hoses to clean up the area. They also wash the tomato juice off their bodies.
