The Walt Disney Company celebrated its 100th anniversary on October 16. It is one of the largest animation studios in the world. Here are a few key events in the company’s history.
On December 5, 1901, Walter Elias Disney was born in the US city of Chicago. In 1923, Walt and his brother Roy started Disney Brothers Studio, which was renamed Walt Disney Studio three years later.
In 1928, Disney introduced Mickey Mouse with the animated short film Steamboat Willie. This was followed by the studio’s first feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.
In 1955, Disneyland opened with 18 rides and attractions in Anaheim, California.
Walt Disney died at 65 years old on December 15, 1966, and Roy took over the company.
Walt Disney World opened in Orlando in 1971, followed by Tokyo Disneyland in 1983, Disneyland Paris in 1992 and Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005.
