Last month, a hungry black bear caused more than a dozen attractions at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in the US state of Florida to close until it was captured.
A local television station said this happened after the bear was sighted in a tree.
“During the fall, bears are more active as they search for food to pack on fat reserves for the winter,” said Lisa Thompson, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. “This particular bear was likely moving through the area searching for food.”
The wildlife commission says it is usually best to give bears space so they can move along on their own. But because this bear was in a theme park, it was caught on the same day it was sighted. It was released into Ocala National Forest.
The wildlife commission estimates there are more than 4,000 black bears in Florida, with most of them located in the central part of the state.
Walt Disney World is one of the largest tourist attractions in the world, drawing tens of millions of visitors each year.
