A pet restaurant in Shanghai has sparked discussions among Chinese internet users.
The restaurant has introduced a “dog malatang”, a dog-friendly version of the popular Chinese street food. This dish – a type of hotpot – is known for its spicy broth, sliced meats and vegetables.
The canine version of malatang includes an impressive array of ingredients, such as salmon, wild red shrimp, beef lung, beef liver, duck breast, chicken hearts and blueberries.
The meal also includes pet-friendly cakes and snacks.
In contrast to the typical method of boiling ingredients in water or spicy soup, the food is prepared using a microwave.
“Honestly, I could not tell much difference between this and the ingredients used in human malatang,” said Gao, a dog owner. “My dog was super excited and could hardly wait.”
While customers typically bring their dogs or cats to the restaurant, large dogs are not permitted.
