Difficulty: Summiteer (Level 3)
Last month, the United Nations said its “big catch-up” child vaccination campaign was on track to hit its 21 million children target.
The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted vaccination campaigns. This resulted in a resurgence of infectious diseases like measles and polio.
It was a three-year effort to immunise children who had missed routine jabs.
The UN’s World Health Organization and its children’s agency Unicef made a joint statement with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The campaign reached an estimated 18.3 million children by December 2025. The children were aged one to five and lived in 36 countries across Africa and Asia. More than 100 million doses of life-saving vaccines were given out.
Of the children reached, around 12.3 million had never received a vaccine dose before. At least 15 million had never received a measles vaccine.
The vaccine drive concluded in March. The final data is still being collected.
