There is a lot of competition among professional photographers at popular tourist spots in Beijing.
One of these places is a lake where women wear traditional dresses to take photos.
They share these pictures on Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote in English, a popular lifestyle app in China.
It is often called “China’s Instagram” because users can share photos, videos and livestream. People use the app to find new places to visit and plan trips to nice photo spots.
The lake in the Shichahai area of the capital is a popular “check-in” place on RedNote.
On a recent Monday, photographer Li Geng, 18, stood with a camera around her neck, touting her services to tourists. She charges 10 yuan ($1.47) per photo.
Li said many of her competitors have a significant social media presence. One of her competitors even has 45,000 followers on RedNote and charges lower prices for photos.
