Astrophysicist Becka Phillipson wondered what a black hole might sound like.
Phillipson works at Villanova University in the US state of Pennsylvania. She found an answer to her question by translating X-ray data from a black hole system into musical notes.
The first time she listened to the audio, the sounds reminded her of someone pressing every key on an organ at once.
After roughly 30 seconds of this “chaos”, she heard a “coherent, beautiful major chord” ring out.
Her research inspired a 13-minute musical piece. It was performed earlier this month at a concert called “This Silent Music”.
The concert was meant to be a place where people could sit and deal with their feelings, said Liz Lang, one of the creators.
