A survey has found that American teens are not using their critical thinking as they depend more on artificial intelligence (AI).
The study was published by a United States media advice group called Common Sense Media. The survey involved more than 1,000 US students aged 13 to 17. It found that students were giving up on “critical thinking” as more classrooms use chatbots.
About 40 per cent of those using AI said these tools did not help them learn. They believe that depending on chatbots means that they come up with fewer ideas on their own.
Nearly six in 10 teens who used AI said they used it to get answers for schoolwork. A quarter did not change the answers. When schools block AI platforms, 59 per cent of pupils turned to personal devices to access chatbots.
Almost three-quarters of those surveyed said they have not been taught how to use AI safely.
