Koalas are iconic Australian animals. They spend most of their time eating and sleeping, and their paws have two opposing thumbs to help them climb up tree trunks.
But Australia’s wild koala population has declined steeply in the past two decades. In fact, the conservation charity Australian Koala Foundation estimates there are fewer than 100,000 koalas left in the wild.
