Every year on September 15, El Salvador comes alive with music, dance and parades. The events commemorate the moment the country and other Central American nations declared independence from Spanish colonial rule 204 years ago. Celebrations feature students in traditional dress, school band performances, displays by soldiers and even fireworks.
