Every year, the banks of the Main river in Frankfurt, Germany, are transformed into a fairground – and battlezone. The Mainfest features rides and even a grand fireworks display. A special highlight is the traditional Fischerstechen.
Brave participants dress in historical costumes and compete against each other on boats. Armed with padded wooden poles, they try to push the other into the river to win this watery joust.
