August 17 is when Indonesians celebrate Independence Day. Besides flag-raising ceremonies, one of the country’s most beloved traditions includes friendly competitive games.
One of them is called gebuk bantal, or pillow fighting. On a bamboo pole suspended above water, participants try to use pillows to push each other off the pole.
