Earlier this month, my school had elections for house captain and vice-captain.
My house is called the Banyan House. All the Grade Six students competed to get people to vote for them to be the captain. In my house, a student named Matthew got everyone’s vote to become the captain. The Grade Five students ran to be vice-captain. I was one of them.
During my election speech, I was nervous because I was speaking in front of a lot of people. I talked about the importance of listening to build trust, understand different perspectives and avoid misunderstandings.
When I was done, I sat down expecting no one would vote for me. To my surprise, I got 16 votes out of the 27 total people in my class.
In the coming year, I will work with everyone in my house to enjoy the year and have fun. I look forward to many exciting house games to come.
Our first house activity is our book drive. It will be happening until early October. Each student brings books to donate to the school library. The house that donates the most books wins. As a vice-captain, I will work with the captain to encourage our housemates to take part and bring the books to the right place.
