Lincoln (Grade Four)
Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist known for polka dots in her paintings and “infinity” installations. Last month, my school had an exhibition showing four of Kusama’s works alongside beautiful creations from students.
My classmates and I made Kusama-inspired flowers out of clay. On the day of the event, the Grade Four exhibition was in the afternoon.
I enjoyed looking at Kusama’s original artwork the most. She is perhaps the most important female artist of the 21st century.
I learned that art can help people heal from their emotional and mental problems. I also learned that Kusama used polka dots to show how she was becoming part of the bigger universe, and the polka dots represent the sun, a symbol of energy. Kusama uses flowers to represent the transformation of an unpleasant situation into something beautiful.
