It's not only humans that use medicine. Our close relatives, the chimpanzees, may also be trying to heal each other.
Scientists have filmed videos of chimpanzees applying crushed insects to skin wounds on themselves and others in their community. The videos were made by Alessandra Mascaro, a volunteer scientist at the Loango Chimpanzee Project in the rainforest of Gabon, Africa.
The scientists think the chimps are trying to treat each other's wounds, although they aren't sure exactly which insects the animals used.
The crushed bugs may fight infections, viruses or pain, the scientists think.
We humans started using insects to treat wounds about 3,000 years ago.
