Have you heard of maglev trains? "Maglev" is when a heavy object like a train is lifted up by the force of magnets. It can then move fast because it does not touch any rails, and so it has no friction. There are already maglev trains running in China.

Now, scientists have completed a road test for the country's first maglev car. They floated a car along a track using magnetic propulsion.

In the test, the 2.8-tonne car rose 35mm above the road's surface. Then it travelled a distance along the track.

The car is fitted with electromagnets and is guided by rails installed on a section of highway in Jiangsu province.

Deng Zigang, a professor at Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, said the first test went well.
