This tiny Mucuchies frog needs to produce babies if its species is to survive.
The dark, spotted frog is listed as "critically endangered".
But there is cause for hope. Driven by a passion to save the tiny 2cm frog, biologist Enrique La Marca and his team launched a breeding project at the amphibian conservation centre in Venezuela.
So far, 24 adult frogs have created about 100 little froglets, and they have been released into nature. This doubles the number of the frogs in the wild.
The Mucuchies frog breeds during the wet season, laying eggs onto leaves. The male protects the eggs until they hatch, then carries the tadpoles on his back and releases them into small pools.
