Difficulty: Explorer (Level 1)

Ancient Greek travellers wrote about the amazing things they saw. They would often journey through Egypt, Persia, and Babylon. Today, we know the latter two countries as Iran and Iraq.

What these travellers described are now called the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. These records did not include sights from Africa, Asia, and the Americas. They did not travel to these parts of the world.

Their writings tell us about the beautiful things people built in the past. We now have technology to help us build giant skyscrapers and strong bridges. Ancient civilisations had their own ways of construction.

Most of these wonders are no longer standing. However, they can still teach us about culture and the past.

Draw it out

Materials

  • A4 paper

  • pen or pencil

  • coloured pens or markers

Instructions

1. Based on the research you did in the first activity, write a comic about how this ancient wonder was built. First, brainstorm what will happen in each frame using the guide below. If there aren’t enough details online, use your imagination to show what might have happened.

  • Frame 1: Who are your characters?

  • Frame 2: What inspired them to create this ancient wonder?

  • Frame 3: How do they start building?

  • Frame 4: What challenge do they face?

  • Frame 5: How do they overcome this challenge?

  • Frame 6: What does the final product look like?

2. Fold your A4 paper in half lengthwise. Then, fold it into thirds across. You should have a total of six boxes that look like the guide below.

3. Draw your comic and share it with the rest of your class.
