Mikaela Wong (aged 8), St Paul’s Convent School (Primary Section)
My book recommendation is Matilda by Roald Dahl. This book is funny, exciting and inspiring.
Matilda is a young girl and a bookworm. Her awful parents won’t send her to school, and they tell her to watch television all day instead.
But because she insists on reading, her father sends her to a terrible school where she encounters Miss Trunchbull, the wicked headmistress who abuses the children.
The book contains lots of shocking details, such as when Miss Trunchbull punishes a boy, who took a small slice of cake without permission, by forcing him to eat the entire cake! There is another scene in which Miss Trunchbull grabs a girl by her pigtails and spins her around because pigtails are against the school rules.
But it is not all bad news! At the school, Matilda also meets the beautiful and kind Miss Honey, who appreciates her talents and helps her to succeed.
