The Whatever After series by Sarah Mlynowski is about a 10-year-old girl named Abby and her seven-year-old brother Jonah, who enter fairy tales through a magic mirror in their basement.

The series includes many adventures, and sometimes, a lesson is hidden in the story!

For example, in the story Bad Hair Day, you could learn to find unique things about yourself. In Once Upon a Frog, you may remember that you need to know why a person is acting the way they are acting; sometimes, people can have a reason for being mean or grumpy.

This series also includes problem-solving. When Jonah accidentally cuts Rapunzel’s hair by climbing up her hair while wearing his soccer cleats, Abby has to find ways to help Rapunzel.

Also, when they accidentally messed up Snow White’s story by stopping her from eating the poisoned apple, they had to help her find another way to marry the prince.

This series is also about compassion. Abby and her friend Robin get into a fight and become friends again after she learns a lesson from going into the fairy tale of The Snow Queen.

Abby forgives Jonah after he teases her about not winning her class spelling bee.
