Emily Xu An-zhi (aged 9), Kowloon Junior School

A book I would recommend is Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger. It is an interesting story, full of unexpected twists and the adventures of Sophie Foster.

In the book, Sophie is raised by human parents and lives a normal, happy life. Then, on a school field trip to a museum, an elf named Fitz comes in and tells Sophie that she is an elf, too. The next day, Sophie, very unwillingly, leaves her family to live with the elves, where she thinks she belongs.

But can she ever belong, having been raised in the human world? And to make matters even more special, Sophie’s real mum is not her human one. Later, she learns about a group of rebels called “The Black Swan” who have somehow tweaked her DNA, giving her special abilities.

Meanwhile, an unnamed rebel group in the first book is determined to kill Sophie. Sophie’s abilities can only protect her so much, and she is determined to learn more about her birth parents and kill the rebels who want to hurt her.
