Hong Kong doctor Ben Ng Siu-bun still remembers the terrible things he saw during the war in Gaza.

The 52-year-old anaesthesiologist went on a humanitarian mission with the International Committee of the Red Cross to Gaza in March. He helped care for people who were hurt or sick.

He spent six weeks at a field hospital in Rafah, which is in southern Gaza. Ng said about half of the patients sent there were suffering from gunshot or blast injuries.

He recalled treating a 12-year-old girl who sustained severe facial injuries from a bomb on his last day there. The doctors had to put in 20 to 30 stitches to repair her face, he said.

“She still had a pretty Hello Kitty hair accessory on her head … but her face was broken,” he said.

Medical workers from Hong Kong who went to help in Gaza said they saw a great need for relief aid there. They reported shortages of medical supplies and food, many people without homes and a lot of people needing emergency medical care. They said they were willing to return to Gaza or other conflict zones to offer help.
