Hong Kong saw its lowest temperatures so far this autumn, dropping to about 23 degrees Celsius (73 Fahrenheit) on Tuesday morning.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the cooler weather was caused by a dry northeast monsoon.

“A dry northeast monsoon will bring mainly fine weather to the coast of Guangdong in the next couple of days. It will be windier and slightly cooler in the morning over the region,” the forecaster said.

“The monsoon is expected to moderate slightly in the latter part of this week to early next week.”

The forecaster added that the mercury would rise gradually from 23.3 degrees, but the temperature difference between day and night would be relatively large over inland areas.

The weather will be mainly cloudy and dry on Tuesday, though sunny intervals are expected during the day with temperatures peaking at around 29 degrees.

It will be mostly fine and sunny from Thursday through to next Wednesday, with temperatures ranging between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius, according to the forecaster.
