Exploring the depths of the ocean with OceanX

A submersible, shaped like a sphere, dives to depths of almost 1,000 metres off the coast of Indonesia, looking for new species, microbes that eat plastic and substances that could develop future medicines.

OceanX is a non-profit backed by billionaire Ray Dalio that brings scientists onto its ships to study the marine world.

The ship has labs for studying genes, a helicopter for looking at things from the sky and a robot sub that can go 6,000 metres underwater.

The two submersibles have tools like collection arms and suction tubes, as well as high-definition cameras. These help them discover surprising life that exists in some of the toughest places on Earth.

OceanXplorer’s Neptune submersible is built for science and studying the ocean. Its Nadir vessel has good cameras to make videos and photos.

That reflects OceanX’s view that compelling images make research more accessible and impactful.
