Frozen
Disney’s highly popular sisterly movie is super heart-warming and cheers me up when I’m down or have had to deal with drama in my life. Elsa and Anna’s love for each other is the best thing in the whole film and their reconciliation gets me every time. Like the title suggests, people’s hearts may seem like they’re frozen, but they melt quickly when they have a little bit of love!

What better way to beat the winter blues than by reminding yourself of the sunny days of summer? In this classic comedy, funny-man John Candy plays a stressed-out air traffic controller who wants to take his family to the seaside for a little rest and relaxation. Of course, the getaway isn’t exactly peaceful, with overcrowded beaches, bad sunburns, and other problems. But hey, poking fun at the downsides of summer vacation will help you enjoy winter even more, right?

Best watched with hot chocolate and almond star cookies. It answers all your questions about Santa, and if you are a believer you’re sure to get goosebumps when the sleigh takes off. Those reindeer are dead cute too.

Buddy, a grown-up man who lives in Santa’s workshop at the North Pole and thinks he is an elf, finds himself in New York and trying to deal with the harsh realities of city life, and worse, those who don’t believe in Santa. This is a hilarious comedy that is just as much fun for kids as it is for adults, and is the perfect movie to get you in the Christmas spirit.

The Santa Clause
Workaholic father Scott Calvin accidentally kills Santa Claus and, really quite without meaning to, ends up taking on the mantle of the jolly red-suited man himself. There’s a little bit of everything in this film – snarky elves, Christmas food, sassy reindeer, and (spoiler alert!) a heart-warming and sappy ending. That’s about all you want out of a holiday film, right?

Home Alone 2
Christmas is all about being with people you love. When Kevin McCallister gets separated from his family for a second time when they go on holiday, he heads to New York. Home Alone 2 is a classic 90s film about daring to try to new things, adventures, and the true meaning of “home”. Set mostly in a beautifully snowy New York City (which manages to look like something off a Christmas card) Kevin wangles a room at the glamorous Plaza Hotel, and accepts that, with the help of his dad’s credit card and room service, Christmas might not be so bad after all. Until, that is, the two burglars who tried to make his life a misery in the original Home Alone reappear, Kevin gets freaked out by an old lady in a park, and the hotel manager gets suspicious about the credit card.
What follows is an adrenaline-filled romp around the city, avoiding the bad guys, trying to stay warm, and learning what is really important at Christmas. Stir up the hot chocolate, and settle in for the ride.

Frosty the Snowman
It almost never snows in Hong Kong, but I don’t let that stop me from loving the idea of building a snowman. With temperatures unusually warm this winter in Hong Kong, what better way to properly get into the spirit of the season than by watching a snowman’s adventure to the North Pole? Every winter I pop this film’s theme tune on, because I love it so much.

The Holiday
This is a fun rom-com about strangers who switch homes over the holidays, only to find things they didn’t expect to discover. Friends, love, a new sense of self… if you’re after something warm and fuzzy to watch with friends, this is a safe go-to. Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and Jude Law make an endearing and lovable cast of realistic characters, and The Holiday stands up to other Christmas classics like Love Actually and the Home Alone franchise.
