Our next question: “What book left a lasting impression on you, and why?” To take part, drop us a line via this form by 12pm on Wednesday, December 17.

Wong Sum-yee, 13, Ho Yu College (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen): Our hearts are with you during this difficult time. Words cannot fully express our deepest care and condolences, but please know that you are not alone. The entire community is thinking of you and ready to offer support. May you find strength in your grief and comfort in our support. We wish you a speedy recovery and the restoration of peace and your homes.

Andy Yiu Chi-hang, 14, King Ling College: Hongkongers’ hearts are with Tai Po. We see your loss and are inspired by the courage you have shown. You are surrounded by a caring community; please seek help if you feel sorrow. You do not walk this difficult road alone – Hongkongers share your pain and stand with you.

Law Wai-ching, 14, Pope Paul VI College: It is regrettable that this happened, but you’ve been very brave. I wish you all the best for the future, that you find happiness, that you can be safe and sound with your families and that you can rebuild your homes as soon as possible.

Jessica Ye, 14, Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School: We empathise with your hardships at this moment. The pain of losing your home and the sudden panic of the tragedy – please don’t bear them alone. Help from the whole city is rallying around you: supplies, psychological counselling and other forms of support to shelter you from the storm. Don’t be afraid. We are always here for you, and we wish you will soon emerge from the darkness and rebuild your homes.

Chloe Hung Man-yin, 17, Ma On Shan Tsung Tsin Secondary School: It must be hard to recover from this incident. I am sure that the future will become shinier and full of hope. I hope everyone stays safe and has a good rest. God bless.

Mandy Sze Nga-man, 13, Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School: Our hearts go out to all those affected by the Tai Po fire. We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families, and we express our sincere gratitude to the firefighters, medical personnel and volunteers who responded with courage and dedication.

Hui Ting-ting, 12, St Paul’s Convent School: Everybody is upset because of this tragedy. This fire has hurt many people and destroyed many homes. But even when many victims felt hopeless, some people were very helpful and donated supplies. This showed that people will help each other during difficult times. To the people who are affected by the Tai Po fire, please do not give up! Don’t lose all hope. Try to let go of your stress and look forward. You should also take some time to unwind, especially if you feel depressed. May God bless you all.

Wong Chor-kiu, 16, Fung Kai No 1 Secondary School: May you find strength in the support of loved ones and the compassion of neighbours and strangers alike. Though the road to recovery seems long, may each day bring you a step closer to healing and rebuilding. We are sending our deepest empathies and hope for brighter days ahead.

Hugo Li Wan-ho, 13, Tai Kwong Hilary College: I am deeply saddened to hear about the fire. Hongkongers have been working hard to support the victims. You do not have to navigate this recovery alone. For those who have lost their home or a loved one, time will heal your wounds. The most important element is not to lose faith that everything will be fine eventually. Help is available – from temporary housing and essential supplies to counselling services. The path to recovery may take time, but step by step, with compassion and solidarity, healing will come. Hold onto hope!

Charissa Tsui, 14, St Paul’s Convent School: This has been an incredibly tough time, and it’s OK to feel overwhelmed. What matters most is that you have people around you who care and want to help in any way they can. Even small steps – like going back to class or spending time with friends – can be part of healing. You’re not alone in this, and we’ll keep standing with you as you rebuild and recover. Your strength through this time is inspiring. The community is here to back you up with care, support and encouragement. Even though healing takes time, brighter days will come, and we’ll walk through them together.
