Hummingbird: If I could travel back in time, I would save a little girl from a tragic kidnapping. I’d appear just as she was forced into the van. Knowing the future, I’d shout out the car licence to pedestrians and call the police instantly. My sudden presence would startle the assailants, creating a vital distraction. I wouldn’t fight them and instead shield her, buying seconds until help arrived. The goal isn’t vengeance, but a swift intervention to alter that terrible moment. That single hour could rewrite a lifetime of grief into a story of a narrow, miraculous escape. Redirecting fate is the most powerful reason to go back.
Seagull: I would travel back in time to the prehistoric era and witness the moment early humans first discovered fire, a huge contribution to future civilisation. Fire meant warmth, protection and the ability to cook. The discovery of fire changed human health and daily life with its wide variety of uses. In that hour, I would see how they reacted to the fire, how they used it and how they realised it was a powerful tool. Picture this, it would be funny to see their reactions as they had no idea what fire was. They could be scared, shocked or even amazed by the strange, glowing object in front of them.
Parrot: It would be the French Revolution, just for an hour. I am currently studying it in history lessons and am keen to know more. I have learned that the revolution began due to a variety of factors and finally led to the execution of King Louis XVI. The revolution brought numerous global effects, such as the creation of the Napoleonic Code, which shows the ideals of nationality, fraternity and liberty. I would particularly like to understand more about the French Revolution, specifically what the deepest underlying reason was that ultimately caused it. The revolution also reminds me how truly horrible war is.
Woodpecker: If I could go back in time for an hour to see a specific event, I would travel back to my 10th birthday in Izu, Japan. On that night, we played with fireworks on the beach. The sparkling fireworks lit up the starry night sky. It was wonderful and filled our hearts with joy and happiness. The fireworks looked like magic wands, glittering in front of our faces. Dad stuck the fireworks in the sand on the beach. Then, my family sang the birthday song. My heart melted. I closed my eyes and made a wish. It was such a memorable hour, and I wish I could relive it again.
Kiwi: If I could travel back in time for an hour to witness a specific event, the construction of the Egyptian pyramids immediately strikes me as the most appealing. When I was a child, I saw a picture of the Great Pyramid of Khufu printed on the cover of a guidebook, and the image has been indelibly imprinted on my mind ever since. The sky was marked by a clear, unflecked azure, with no clouds to steal the limelight from the colossal edifice. Sunlight reflected on the monument of yore, as if the bricks had turned to gold, radiating their glory straight into my eyes. This sight sparked my lifelong fascination with the chronicles of civilisation, not only compelling me to question how the ancient Egyptians built such an astounding miracle, but also encouraging me to pursue a path in studying history. Despite later realising that the DSE curriculum does not include ancient civilisations, my passion for discovery has never waned. Being the original catalyst for my fervour, I profoundly wish to witness the creation of the pyramids.
Owl: Have you ever thought about winding back in time to witness a historical event? I would like to be present at the invention of the first computer. It marked the beginning of a new era in which digital technology would be implemented more and more in our daily lives. I am also eager to know more about the development of the first computer. My curiosity about these complex machines has never stopped, and meeting their inventors has always been one of my greatest hopes. Nowadays, many aspects of our lives are filled with advanced technologies that originated from that first computer. Therefore, I hope to witness its invention and fulfil my wish.
Flamingo: If I could travel back in time for an hour, I would choose to go to the day of my kindergarten graduation ceremony. On that day, my grandma went to my school and witnessed me finish a meaningful life stage. I still remember that she gave me a teddy bear as a gift to encourage me to keep up my efforts. Unfortunately, she died when I was in Primary Five. I miss her, and I hope that she is by my side in some way. If I could travel back to see her again, I would share my recent experiences with her, pour my heart out and tell her that she is my beloved grandmother.
