A woman in China finished a 13km mini marathon while pushing a stroller carrying her six-month-old baby. She has inspired many people on mainland social media.

The woman surnamed Liu, from Hubei province in central China, took two hours to complete the route with her son.

In a video posted on a news website, Liu is shown running with one hand on the stroller's handle and the other moving by her side. Her little son is shown sitting calmly in the stroller in front of her.

Liu is a sports enthusiast, but this was her first time running a marathon since her son was born. Despite the extra challenge, she said she was not worried, because she has become used to taking her son in the stroller when walking and running for exercise.

Liu said she was worried about collisions with other runners injuring her son, so she waited until the other runners had gone before she started.

She completed the route easily despite stopping twice to feed her son milk after 3km and again at the 6km point. This only added half an hour to her finishing time, she said.

Liu said that the event organisers and volunteers supported her in bringing her son. Spectators cheered them as they ran past.

"I feel very touched," Liu said.

Mainland social media users were charmed by the woman's story.

One person said: "The little son is lying down to win."

Another person said: "When her son grows up, he can be proud of himself for finishing a marathon at such a young age."

"The mother is very brave," a third person commented.

"Look, the little son is quiet on the journey. The family must have a good parenting style," said another person.

Five things to know about

1. A marathon is a long-distance running event where an athlete must run 42km. A mini marathon is shorter.

2. There are many marathons held all over the world each year. The Hong Kong marathon happens in the winter.

3. The marathon is a difficult race, and runners are advised to run a lot to get fit before they compete.

4. The marathon was named after an ancient battle. The famous Battle of Marathon was fought in 490BC. An army from Persia came to fight the army of Athens. The Athens army did not expect to win, but they did. After the victory, they sent their best runner back to Athens to tell everyone the good news. He ran 42km to get there.

5. At the age of 3, Budhia Singh is the youngest person to run a marathon!
