Difficulty: Challenger (Level 2)
A rural primary school in Japan has enrolled a baby goat as its only new “student”.
In Japan’s countryside, fewer couples are having babies, and many people are leaving the area. So there are fewer new students attending schools.
Isa in Kagoshima Prefecture is one such town struggling to fill its classes. Its primary school currently has only eight students across six years. It failed to enrol any new children for the spring term.
In an effort to delight the students and add energy to the campus, the school welcomed an unusual new classmate: a female baby goat. The school principal named the kid Minami. A student’s father, who owns a nearby farm, gave it to the school as a gift.
The pupils have warmly embraced their new classmate. They take the baby goat out to graze and have worked together to build a new home for it.
