Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 has registered the largest opening weekend for any Chinese movie in North America in recent years.

Its presale box office alone crossed the opening weekend record for any Chinese-language film in the last 20 years.

Ne Zha 2 is a sequel to the 2019 hit Ne Zha. Both films were inspired by the 16th-century novel The Investiture of the Gods.

The film has impressed audiences with its beautiful animation, imaginative visuals, and rich cultural themes. After its release in mainland China on January 29, the film quickly broke box office records. It is now the highest-grossing film ever in China.

The film is the first non-Hollywood movie to make it to the top 20 highest-grossing films globally. Industry experts believe Ne Zha 2 could even become the highest-grossing animated film.

Currently, the title of the highest-grossing animated film belongs to Disney’s Inside Out 2.
