China has proposed a new idea for cities to include programmes for young people.

These programmes would focus on areas such as city planning, housing, healthcare, education and public services.

This is part of a bigger plan to make city life better for young people, kids and families.

The plan aims to deepen the construction of “youth-development-oriented cities”.

The measures will be across jobs, housing, healthcare, family support and urban services.

The plan comes after the Chinese government said in March that it would build a “childbirth friendly society” from 2026-2030.

The government is trying to stop China’s population from falling after new data showed that births reached a record low in 2025. Last year, China’s population decreased by 3.39 million people.

Measures include improving how people connect with one another and providing better social services. Authorities also plan to increase financial help for childcare and create more rooms for mothers and babies in public areas.

They will strengthen after-school and holiday childcare services and ensure that children of migrant workers have equal access to schools.

China also released a high-quality urban development plan, aimed at creating more liveable cities ‌by 2035.
