Hong Kong Disneyland is collaborating with Pixar Animation Studios to offer a theatrical experience centred on a home-grown character.
The resort has dropped clues suggesting she could be a pangolin.
The theme park announced that a massive theatre space would be unveiled at Toy Story Land in the first half of 2027, with the theatrical experience to be exclusive to the city.
The show’s storyline focuses on Poppy, a plush toy from Hong Kong. She is settling into a new community with her owner, Aria.
Audiences will spot nods to growing up in the city through Aria’s collection of keepsakes and childhood memories.
These include Chinese chess pieces, a rattle drum and local treats such as egg tarts.
Disneyland Hong Kong has not explicitly confirmed details about Poppy’s appearance. However, a photo from a press event shows concept art drawings of a pangolin.
An illustration shared in a press kit also shows a design for the new theatre space. It has a sign saying “Poppy and Her Flowering Friends” and features a pangolin-like animal.
