A cold wave hit China’s capital last month, bringing with it unusually heavy snowfall and a sharp drop in temperature. Despite the bitter weather, Beijing residents headed outdoors to the frozen lakes – as they do every winter.
One popular destination is the Shichahai Ice Rink, a centuries-old rink that once served only the imperial family. Today, residents and tourists can skate on the frozen lake using ice cycles and sledges.
