Good on you for being willing to work on yourself and wanting to make new friends. Here are some things that you can do.
Don’t wait for others to talk to you. You can start a conversation! Here are some ideas:
-
Ask about schoolwork.
-
Talk about something you both experienced, like a hard test.
-
Say something nice about what someone is wearing.
You can also join a school club or activity. You will meet people who like the same things as you, and they will see a different side of you.
It can also help if you look friendly. Keep your body language open and welcoming. For example, do not cross your arms. When you talk to someone, listen carefully. Ask questions and show that you are interested.
If you are having a hard time feeling comfortable around people, or if you need more help, you can talk to a doctor, counsellor or a grown-up you trust.
