The fossils of a gigantic, lion-sized otter that lived alongside early humans have been found in Ethiopia, in east Africa.
The species, named Enhydriodon omoensis, lived about 3 million years ago. It lived beside a group of extinct human ancestors known as australopithecines.
The otter was giant compared to its cute relatives of today, and the scientists think that it weighed more than 200kg.
It may have eaten both land and sea animals, but the scientists think it spent its days on land, rather than in water.
"The peculiar thing is that its teeth suggest it was not a water dweller, like all modern otters," says scientist Kevin Uno from Columbia University.
