Difficulty: Explorer (Level 1)

Hong Kong has many mountains and nature trails. But if you plan on hiking or camping, you must stay safe.

Firstly, you should always hike with others and avoid hiking at night. Make sure you know the trail route ahead of time. Take a map so you can always know where you are.

Bring plenty of water and snacks. Hiking can be tiring, so it is important to fuel and hydrate. That also means you should eat a good breakfast.

Avoid hiking in the extreme heat. Hong Kong summers are guaranteed to be hot and humid. If you choose to hike in hot temperatures, go in the morning when it is a bit cooler. You can also select a hike that has lots of shade.

When hiking, you should have the proper equipment. Wear good shoes, comfortable clothes and a hat. Wear sunblock and bring mosquito repellent. Make sure to reapply both of them often. It is likely you will sweat them off!

Someone in your group should also carry a first aid kit with basics like bandages.
