Difficulty: Explorer (Level 1)

Almost 70 per cent of the Earth is covered by oceans. Oceans hold 98 per cent of our planet’s total water supply. The ocean is an average of 3.2km deep.

Humans know of about 245,000 marine species. The most common sea animals are those without a backbone, such as jellyfish and shrimp.

There are thousands of species of jellyfish and shrimp. Some jellyfish are clear, but some have bright colours like pink or yellow. Some shrimp in the deep sea use their backs to see. Others have clear bodies to help them blend in with their surroundings.
