Learning often requires you to remember a lot of information.

But things can get confused or forgotten if you do not have a good system for learning and memorisation.

It is important to find study methods that suit your learning style to keep your mind fresh and active. There are numerous apps online that promote revision and learning strategies. However, you only need a pen and paper for practical study.

Fortunately, we have a few ways to help you learn efficiently as you prepare for your upcoming tests and exams.

Materials

  • pen

  • paper

  • (optional) coloured highlighters

Instructions

1. Divide your paper into four sections: one small block at the top of the page for the title of your notes, two columns (one of them much bigger than the other), and a block at the bottom of the page. All the notes you take in class will go in the bigger column.

2. After class, review your notes and write down any keywords or questions in the smaller column.

3. Summarise the material in the block at the bottom.

4. Use this method to review and revise what you have learned easily, thereby strengthening your memory.

5. Optional: use colours and highlighters to colour-code similar concepts and key themes.

Materials

  • pen

  • paper

Instructions

1. Write the main idea or theme of your studies in the centre of the paper in big letters.

2. Add branches to your main idea. These are the smaller ideas that connect to the main idea.

3. You can also add more branches to the smaller ideas. However, make sure each idea is different to keep things clear.

4. Drawing a mind map is an effective way to learn new concepts. It also makes it easier to remember simple information, as it helps keep things organised.
