Difficulty: Explorer (Level 1)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to meet an alien from beyond our solar system? Would the aliens be our friends or foes? Would their planet be safe or dangerous?
Think about what you would do if you were to meet these aliens. Perhaps you should introduce yourself in a friendly way, just in case. There’s no harm in gaining the trust of intergalactic strangers.
Imagine an alien civilisation
Materials
-
pencil and paper
-
coloured pencils or crayons
Instructions
-
Think about what an alien planet might look like. What would the weather and temperature be like? Draw out your thoughts.
-
Draw a few everyday aliens from this civilisation. Do they look similar to humans? What kind of clothes might they wear? Make sure their clothing makes sense for the environment they live in.
-
Design the leader of the civilisation. Make sure that the leader stands out from the crowd of other aliens. You could add a crown or a staff to show its status.
-
Add a few fun details. What kind of homes do these aliens live in? Do they have a swimming pool or a library? What do their restaurants look like, and what type of food do they serve?
Astronaut business card
Materials
-
a blank card or a small sheet of paper
-
a pen or marker
Instructions
-
What could the written language of the aliens look like? Write your name in that language. Add your name in English below it.
-
Put your job title on the card. What would you be in charge of doing on a spacecraft? It could be anything from “Mission Specialist” to “Space Chef”.
-
What space group would you work for? Would it be a government organisation or a private company exploring solar systems? Write the name of the group on the card.
-
A picture says a thousand words. In case the aliens cannot read English or speak a different alien language, draw a small image of yourself in your role with this group. Add a few other elements to show that you are friendly.
